The first few days after the New Year (specifically on the 6th- the Epiphany) in France are celebrated with lots and lots of cake and champagne, of course!! Only the finest cake though, fit for a king or queen. This is because in France, the new year is celebrated with the ‘Galette des Rois’ a.k.a ‘The Cake of Kings.’ Its a pastry cake filled with nuts, figs, etc… and baked inside of the cake is a tiny charm. The lucky person who gets the slice with the charm inside is crowned the king or queen! Unfortunately, I was not crowned queen this year, but there’s always the next year!! 😉 It’s a fun and delicious tradition to celebrate the New Year in France!
